[PS5 Compatible] 2020 Recommended Arcade Sticks [Gundam Maxion]
Arcade controllers have been in short supply recently.
At present, it is thought that this is due to the influence of the coronavirus, but the author believes that this is not the case.
2020 7 Month 30 Day.
Because the PS4 version of Mobile Suit Gundam EXTREME VS. MAXIBOOST ON will be released (I think).
If you're just playing casually, you can probably use any arcade stick, but if you want to play the game seriously, you should choose a proper arcade stick.
So, this time I would like to introduce some of the arcade controllers that I own that I particularly recommend, and I hope this will be helpful when purchasing an arcade controller.
Make sure you can click on it as soon as it goes on sale again!!
For those who are buying an arcade stick for the first time
First, we will introduce recommended models for those purchasing an arcade controller for the first time.
What are the requirements for an arcade stick recommended for beginners?
・Manufacturers have well-established production lines
・Many stores carry this product
There are many people around me who use the same model
The following are some of the reasons:
This time we will introduce arcade controllers that meet the above conditions, so please use this as a reference.
I've also written about future steps at the end of the article, so I would appreciate it if you would take a look at it first.
HORI Real Arcade Pro N HAYABUSA
First,Real Arcade Pro N HAYABUSAStarting with the introduction.
HORI has a lineup of arcade sticks, and if you want to use an arcade stick with the same feel as in an arcade,Real Arcade Pro Series (hereinafter referred to as RAP)It is best to choose a product from the above list.

However"HAYABUSAThe products with the name "Hori" are equipped with original levers and buttons made by HORI, so they don't strictly have the same feel as those at arcades.
*Some stores have HAYABUSA arcade cabinets, but...
However, there aren't any major differences, so there's no problem using it to get used to operating the lever and buttons.
Also, products with an "N" in the product name have a button layout called the "Noir layout," which is used in the cabinets of Bandai Namco games.
Of course, the Gundam cabinets in arcades also have this layout, and when it comes to Gundam and Tekken, this "Noir layout" is a surefire choice.
RAP N HAYABUSA has a unique feature that no other arcade controller has.
That is this "Option button cover"is.

In offline fighting game tournaments, opening the menu screen during a match, even if unintentionally, will result in a loss of the round.
On the other hand, if there is a cover over the option button, it will no longer malfunction.
The cover itself is a sliding type, so you can easily open it when you want to use it.

Other buttons are concentrated on the top left.
*Less likely to get in the way

The touchpad is located on the front.

The cable can be stored in the unit itself, and the cable hole is on the right side.

The bottom is also non-slip, so it can be used on a table without wobbling.
The plate is screwed in place, so it takes some effort to access the inside.

Opening the bottom will void the manufacturer's warranty, so those who want to replace buttons, etc. should be careful.
In terms of usability, I feel it is one of the most user-friendly arcade controllers in the 1 yen range.
It is neither too heavy nor too light, and has just the right weight, so it can be used on your lap or on a table.
It's just the right size, so it's easy to carry around, and you won't have to worry about finding a bag to carry the arcade controller in.
*The Fighting Edge blade is too wide, making it difficult to choose a bag.
In the world of arcade controllers, where there is honestly no end to the possibilities, Noko RAP N HAYABUSA is a high-standard presence.
You can continue using it for a long time by changing the buttons and levers to suit your preferences.
I think these are must-buys for people who can't afford to pay such high prices.
HORI Fighting Edge Blade
Next we will introduce the Fighting Edge blade, also made by HORI.
It has the same noir layout as RAP N HAYABUSA.
This really comes down to personal preference, so there is no real difference in superiority or inferiority between button layouts.
If you want to experience a more arcade-like atmosphere, you should use the Noir layout for Gundam (2nd time).
*The Razer sticker is just one of the author's playful ideas, so don't worry about it!

The top surface is made of aluminum, making it highly rigid.
In winter, the cold can be a concern, but you can deal with this by placing towels or other items where your arms touch.
Only the bare minimum of buttons are placed, and it also features a "Tournament Mode" that prevents the optional buttons and PS button from accidentally operating.
*Mode that disables the Option button, PS button, and SHARE button functions
Also, this blade has one difference from other HAYABUSA blades.
The difference is that silver parts are used for the buttons.
*The author has already replaced the buttons, so it looks a little different...
There is almost no difference in performance, so the difference is simply in appearance.
All other buttons are concentrated on the side.
I felt that this was a little difficult to press.
Tournament mode and assignment keys are also located on the side.

The blade touchpad is also located on the front.

The cable can be stored and the cable hole is on the left.

It weighs approximately 3.5 kg, which is slightly heavier than the RAP N HAYABUSA, and its longer width makes it more stable.
Of course, there is a non-slip rubber sheet attached to the bottom, so it won't wobble even with slight manipulation.

The bottom is also screwed down, so if you replace the lever or button, be aware that this will void the manufacturer's warranty.
This is one of the arcade controllers that is the perfect choice for those looking for higher level usability.
It is priced low among high-end arcade controllers, making it an affordable starting point for those looking to buy a high-end arcade controller.
It boasts the fastest input latency of any current arcade stick, making it popular with players who want to take a more serious approach to winning.
It is also easy to obtain as it is available at electronics retailers.
This is a recommended product for those who want a high-performance arcade controller but want to keep the price a little lower.
※It is still considered a must-buy arcade controller.
Used arcade controllers (limited recommendations)
A certain range of these are categorized as used arcade controllers.
To the last "Only if you have a proper purpose and are looking for a used item" Would I recommend buying it? It's reached a level where I basically can't recommend it.
Although they fall under the category of used arcade controllers, the following items are worth buying:
- After opening, it has been used to check its operation
This is not something that will bother you if you use it 2-3 times after opening.
There are quite a few items that have been bought but have been left unused because they don't suit you.
It's already sold out, but I'm really interested in it
Some products are non-existent except for second-hand items.
Like, things from a bankrupt company...
-Knowledge of maintenance and modifications
Or anyone who wants to try their hand at modifying.
The best thing to do would be to try tinkering with a used one.
・Collaboration products that will never be resold again
There are quite a few collaboration arcade controllers.
Some are produced regularly, but older items are difficult to obtain.
Generally, we recommend buying new rather than used.
Although it is not a used item, I would like to introduce an arcade controller that I have been using for many years.
Mad Catz Arcade FightStick TE2(P4U2)

I switched to using a Fighting Edge blade about two years ago, but the TE2 has been with me through thick and thin for many years.
I don't recommend buying this TE2 right now, butChoose an arcade stick for functionalityI would like to explain why I chose this arcade stick at the time, as it reflects my belief that ``it's a game that can be played with ease.''
- The top can be opened and closed with one touch.

- Option buttons and share buttons are less likely to be pressed by mistake
*The button is located on the back.

・Can be used on PS3 and PS4

・The tabletop from Persona 4, which I love!
In fact, TE2 has a fair amount of input lag, and there was a general feeling that it was better not to choose it if you were serious about winning.
However, I continued to use it for the four reasons mentioned above.
As someone who has participated in competitions, this was the basis for my overall evaluation, taking into consideration portability and maintenance.
Even if it's a used arcade stick, it might be worth considering buying if the advantages outweigh the disadvantages for you.
It depends on the condition,Razer Panthera (non-EVO)If you come across a used copy of "," it probably wouldn't hurt to put it on your list of potential purchases.
However, as of 2020, it has become an incredibly expensive premium item, so if it were priced at a reasonable price (around 30000 yen)...
Arcade controller maintenance and modification
Once you've used an arcade controller for a while, you'll probably start to notice a few things that bother you.
The levers may be softer, the buttons may be less effective, or you may even want to change the appearance a bit...
It's best to wait until you feel like you want to make some changes from the original state before starting maintenance or modifications.
Here are some of the modifications I made.
*Replace the 6 blade buttons with silent buttons

*Limited edition buttons sold at EVO JAPAN 2020.
*Currently available for purchase in stores.

*A part that changes the lever stroke is incorporated.

Also, although it will cost around 1 yen to import, Qanba will be releasing a white arcade controller with a noir layout!
