Akihabara just before summer vacation [The day before Tokyo surpassed 5000 new COVID-19 cases]
August is here and summer is in full swing!
Just before the summer vacation season, Tokyo has been experiencing extremely hot days with maximum temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius.
The Tokyo Olympics have begun, and while there is good news about a rush of medals, the number of new coronavirus infections in Tokyo is skyrocketing.
On August 5th, the number exceeded 5000.
We will introduce the state of Akihabara under such circumstances.
Just before summer vacation! Akihabara on a weekday
How crowded is Akihabara?

At the JR Akihabara Electric Town Exit station building "Atre Akihabara 1"Hololive collaborationis being held from August 1st.
Fans were seen taking photos of the collaborative wrapping.
It feels like there are more of them than in other collaborations, and it seems like they have a loyal fan base.

Nearby, at the Kinoshita Group's PCR testing corner, there was a line, although it was shorter than last week.
I'm not sure why, but perhaps he came to get tested just before the summer holidays to go home?

The view from Chuo Street.
The camera was zoomed in, which created a slight compression effect, but even taking that into account, it was still quite lively.
Akihabara: A new smoking area opens on Chuo Street

April 7th articleHowever, the previously introduced "Tohoku House" is still being held at Akihabara UDX.
As part of this, a Niigata snow experience booth was set up in Savonius Square in front of Akihabara UDX.
However, the highest temperature in Tokyo on that day was 34.5 degrees.
The square was wet from melting snow.

There's movement at the former Tsukumo site at the Electric Town entrance.
There were toilets and lights piled up.

Demolition has begun on the buildings behind the Kakuta Building, around where the "PC Koubou Akihabara Outlet" was located.
This area is expected to be redeveloped.
Please wait patiently for the new building to be completed.

A smoking space has been created along Chuo Dori, next to Akihabara Place, on the former site of Roy Building 4.
It seems that the trailer is used as a smoking area.

It's a pretty flashy trailer, but it's in a secluded location, so you might not notice it unless you know about it.

The vending machine at the entrance is a one-coin machine, which is great!

Swimsuit kits are on sale for a limited time on the 4th floor of Volks Hobby Heaven 2.

Don't miss out on the first mass-produced 3D product of Sakura Nene, also known as Nene-chi, a character that has been recognized by the world-famous company Apple!!
Tokyo's new infections exceed 4000, but Akihabara's crowds remain unchanged
Although the extension of the state of emergency was announced at the end of July, there was no sign of a decrease in the number of people on the streets of Akihabara.
In fact, I do wonder why the PCR testing corner is the most crowded spot in front of the station.
In various parts of Akihabara, aging buildings were being demolished and buildings that had lost their tenants were being reduced to bare skeletons.
Recently on Twitter and elsewhere, I've noticed a noticeable increase in vacant buildings facing Chuo-dori, and I've seen some scary comments. Apart from the former Adores site, I think the other buildings are all quite old, making it difficult to find new uses for them.
And it's just so hot.
Of course, you should take precautions against infectious diseases, but please also take precautions against heatstroke, such as drinking plenty of water, so that you can enjoy your stroll through Akihabara.
