[August 2021] Akihabara store closings

The state of emergency was lifted in September, and thanks to the recent progress in vaccinations, the number of infections has dropped dramatically, and Akihabara seems to be busier.
At the peak of store closures, it was said that the area had become a ghost town, but what is the situation now?This month we continue to compile information on store closures.

Akihabara store closures in August 2021 (in chronological order)

Musashino Mori Coffee Suehirocho Branch

Opening date: Monday, April 25, 2021
Closing date: Sunday, June 28, 2021

Musashino Mori Coffee Suehirocho branch opened in January this year as a change of business model on the site of the beloved Jonathan's, which had been in business for over 22 years, but closed after just 10 months.
There were many popular menu items, including pancakes, which have been introduced several times on this blog, but it seems that the impact of COVID-19 was significant.

Sweets Paradise Yodobashi Akiba store

Opening date: July 2016
Closing date: Sunday, June 30, 2021

On the first floor of Yodobashi Akiba, they were selling cheap and delicious 100 yen cakes, as well as original cakes that looked just like real ramen and katsudon.
Since the company frequently collaborated with anime and manga, many people in the Akihabara area are sad to see it go.

Have we gotten over the raging rush of store closures?

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many popular and long-established stores in Akihabara closed their shutters, with the number of store closures often exceeding 10 per month, but it seems the rush of store closures has now passed and the town itself is beginning to calm down.
Although there are fears of a resurgence of the virus, we hope that the coronavirus will subside as soon as possible and that Akihabara will once again become lively.
