[August 2022] Akihabara store closings

Summary of the first store closures of 2022!!
In the second half of last year, the coronavirus situation seemed to have calmed down a bit and Akihabara was regaining its vitality, but recently the number of infections seems to have exploded again.
Last year and the year before, many stores sadly closed, but what will happen this year?

Animate Akihabara Annex

Opening date: Saturday, November 23, 2019
Closing date: Sunday, June 16, 2022

Originally called Animate Akihabara Girls Station, it was renovated in March 2019 under the name Animate Akihabara Annex.
The day after it closed, it merged with Animate Akihabara Main Store and began operating.

The Body Shop Atre Akihabara

Opening date: Wednesday, November 17, 2010
Closing date: Sunday, June 23, 2022

It opened at the same time as the Atre Akihabara store, but closed after about 12 years.
It sold stylish fragrances that could also be used as gifts, and was popular among young women.

GUNDAM Cafe TOKYO BRAND CORE

Opening date: Saturday, November 24, 2010
Closing date: Sunday, June 30, 2022

The Gundam Cafe, located right next to Akihabara Station and loved by fans for 12 years, has sadly closed.
This store had just been renovated in July 2020, but was forced to close early due to the impact of COVID-7.
In addition to the Akihabara store, the Odaiba, Fukuoka, and Osaka stores also closed in the same month.

PREMIUM STAGE Junk Street Store

Opening date: Wednesday, November 27, 2019
Closing date: Sunday, June 30, 2022

Premium Stage, a PC peripherals specialty store, closed its Direct Real store two years ago, and now its final store, the Junk Street store, has also closed.

Tsukiji Gindaco Don Quijote Akihabara store

Opening date: Sunday, April 27, 2014
Closing date: Monday, May 31, 2022

The store was very popular and frequently collaborated with anime and idols, but it closed after about seven and a half years.
There is also a store at Yodobashi Akiba on the Showa-dori side, so you can use that after closing time.

All Gundam Cafes closed

As previously announced, "GUNDAM Cafe TOKYO BRAND CORE" will be closing.
As a result, all permanent Gundam Cafe locations were forced to close.
There was also information circulating that the FamilyMart Akihabara Station Central Exit Store, located on the first floor of the Chom Chom Akihabara Building near the central exit of Akihabara Station, would be closing in January (or rather, there was a sign that could only be interpreted that way), but it turned out to be a temporary closure for inventory purposes.

With widespread lockdown measures implemented in mid-January, events that were scheduled to be held in Akihabara this year have been postponed or canceled again, leaving many companies and stores scratching their heads as they struggle with repeated setbacks.
We will continue to monitor the situation, but we hope to see some good news this year.
