Anastasia garage kit painted with airbrush

Akihabara BC

While the excitement of the AKIBA VTuber Festival is still going strong, Anastasia was on hand from Akihabara Base Camp to exhibit as a participating VTuber.
In addition to an exhibition of several videos selected from those that have been posted so far and clear files that have been created, a garage kit that was hastily created will be on display as a highlight product.
We also sold five limited edition figures and exhibited examples of the painting process.

This time, I would like to introduce the creation of an Anastasia garage kit as an example of such painting.

Before painting the Anastasia kit

One day in April, a box arrived.

The Anastasia kit parts that were printed in the order of Anastasia → Anasee → ANC have arrived.
Basically, kit building isn't just about assembling the parts and then being done! It requires a series of processes, such as processing, painting, and reassembling.

After printing and processing to a certain extent, there will be traces of supports and layers, so the first thing we need to do is clean them up.

Sometimes when I scrub too hard it gouges out, so in those cases I repair it with putty.
Make sure to fix any mistakes you made when printing.
It is useful to have lacquer putty, poly putty, or epoxy putty.

Join some of the separated parts together.
I use a combo of UV resin and brass wire. I think this is probably the easiest.

Preparing for painting rubble

Once the prep is done, the next step is to prepare for painting.
First, thoroughly wash and dry the parts to remove any shavings or chemicals that may have adhered during the forming process.

To improve the adhesion of the paint, a primer is applied and then a surfacer is applied to create the base.
I think the paint will probably stick even without using a primer, but just to be safe...

At this time, by spraying the primer, you can clearly see areas where the preparation is poor and where parts are interfering with each other.
After reprocessing, spray the surfacer again.

Anastasia Garage Kit Painted

Once the base coat is dry, the actual paint will be applied.
The base will dry completely if you leave it for a few hours, but I like to leave it for a day.

This painting will be done with an airbrush.
The paint I'm going to use is something like this:
I hope the color turns out as I expect it to, but I think I'll think about it as I paint it and see what happens.

Let's start with the first layer.
I think it works well if you imagine the coloring process as preparing from the bottom up and painting in layers.
This may be easier to notice for those who paint layers in Photoshop, etc.
First, apply the base color in a solid layer, making sure there are no areas left unpainted.
The first layer is the base of the skin, costume, and hair.

I use clear pale red to create skin tone, so I apply it in layers at the same time.
It's a small area so it's easier to do it all at once.

Use masking tape when painting.
It's fine to use masking tape roughly, but if you want to paint different areas precisely, you should use it very carefully.
The level of completion will depend on how detailed this masking is.

Skin-colored and sheer tights

One of the joys of painting yourself is being able to be as particular about the texture as you like.
This time, I had a deadline to complete it by April 22nd, so I wanted to express Anastasia's white tights in the best possible way within the time available.
Here is the result after applying the skin-colored base and shadow.

We spray clear white on here to adjust the transparency and tights feel.
・3 sprays of clear white

・5 sprays of clear white

Finish with 6 sprays of clear white
Peel off the masking tape and check the difference in color between the thighs. It's amazing.

Finish with paint, decals, and top coat

I think Anastasia has a relatively large number of different color schemes in her character design.
Furthermore, there are many small details, so there will be a lot of masking work involved.
It's pretty easy to color the hair differently, but the challenge is being able to create a nice gradation.

The wing parts have detailed masking of the energy lines.
However, if you wet it nicely, it will create a crisp look.

By the way, the masking process looks like this:

Decals are included, but this time I wanted a more dignified face so I used the Frame Arms Girls ones.

Spray on a clear top coat and let it dry for a day and the painting is complete!

Assembled on site

Assembly will take place at the AKIBA VTuber Festival venue.
Transporting it while assembled may result in damage.

The assembled kits will be on display at the central register!!
It turned out surprisingly well!

Create your own Anastasia kit!

If you think that creating a kit car is too difficult, then you're in luck!
I agree that the hurdles to production are a bit high.
This was my first attempt, but by taking my time and working carefully, I was able to create a high-quality piece.
This work, exhibited at the Anastasia booth, was created by an experienced artist!

It may take a long time to complete, but the satisfaction you will feel when you finish is immense!

Anastasia Galley is also planned to be sold at various events and at the Akihabara Base Camp.
If you're interested, be sure to check it out.
