You can make a cool Gunpla for just 1 yen including the kit [RG ν Gundam]
Golden Week has begun!
The Hi-ν Gundam was mass-produced, and many modelers reported purchasing it.
Due to the influence of COVID-19, it seems that many people are spending the long holidays building plastic models.
So, this time, as the title suggests, "Even beginners can make cool Gunpla for just 1 yen," I'd like to introduce a small example of how to make a Gunpla.
There is also a YouTube video that shows the process of making it.
We hope you will find this information useful as well.

The kit and rules we will be using this time!
First off, here's the kit I'll be using!

This is the RG RX-93 ν Gundam.
This kit is one of the most popular RG kits among Gunpla modelers.
The Nu Gundam is the mobile suit piloted by Amuro in the animated film "Char's Counterattack," and is often ranked as one of the favorite mobile suits by many Gundam fans.
The Amazon review is:2,734 reviews. Average rating: 4.5 stars" and has received extremely high praise.

It's a cool, highly detailed kit that can be easily disassembled and assembled, but I'd like to add a few modifications to it to take it a step further.
This time I got it at a shop in Akihabara for 4,158 yen.
The maximum amount that can be used is 1 yen.
The total price, including the kit, tools and other small items, is 1 yen.
Everything needed to make it has been properly recorded, so if you grab 1 yen and go buy the same thing, you'll be able to get the exact same thing!!

Separating the parts
First, separate the parts from the runner.
This time we will use Tamiya thin blade nippers.
Personally, I think these double-edged nippers are very sharp and easy to use.
When I bought it, it cost 2,000 yen.

Now let's quickly separate the parts.
Be careful when cutting the parts as they may fly away with great force.

To prevent parts from being gouged or cracked, cut them twice to separate them.
Double cutting involves cutting so that the gate remains, and then cutting off the remaining part again.

▲After cutting it off with enough space to spare, cut the remaining part again!
The RG Nu Gundam has some undergates, so I think you can process the parts neatly without worrying too much.
・Undergate
The joints are located in hidden areas of the parts, so gate marks are not noticeable when assembled.
The kit assembles beautifully even without perfect gate processing.

The undergate assembles beautifully even without assembly, so I hope it's included in all kits!
Once the parts are separated, separate them alphabetically.
It may not be necessary if you assemble the parts by separating them as instructed, but having a case for sorting them will make things a lot easier.
This is a set of two sorting trays from the Plastic Model Improvement Committee.

Gate processing [file]
Use a file to make the gate marks from the second cut flat.
There is a wide range of tools available, but we recommend purchasing Tamiya's three-piece craft tool set: flat, half-round, and round.

For Gunpla models of around 1/144 scale, each part is small, so I think it's easier to use a thin file.
As you use it, you will probably want something that is easier to cut with or has a larger surface.
When the time comes, you can still purchase one that suits your needs.
Sanding is not required, so if you think you need it, buy it.

Parts assembly
Next comes assembly.
Basically
Assembling the inner frame

Attaching exterior parts to the frame
will be repeated.

The parts are well-formed, so you won't have any trouble assembling them.
It fits nicely with a snap.

Weathering [dirty work]
Once the parts are assembled, weathering is applied.
The first step in weathering is to spray on a semi-gloss top coat.

By spraying a layer of top coat, you can improve the adhesion of weathering paint and also protect the decals (stickers).
This time I used a semi-gloss top coat that comes in a spray can.
When spraying, make sure to do so indoors in a well-ventilated area or in an area with little wind.

After spraying the top coat, let it dry for about a day before starting the weathering process.
This time I will use Mr. Weathering Color Multi Black.

Shake the paint bottle thoroughly to mix it, then use a brush to stain the parts to your heart's content!

You'll have to wipe it off later, so it's okay to just apply it thickly.
After applying the weathering color, let it dry and then wipe it off.
It's okay to add dirt to certain parts like this.

I use a melamine sponge to wipe away the stains.
You can get these from a 100 yen store, so get ready!
It will get dirty quickly if you keep wiping it off, so be sure to use a lot!
Tear the melamine sponge into small pieces and wipe away the dirt.

Wipe off the dirt from the surface while leaving the dirt on the borders and edges of the parts (corners and lines) to create different shades of dirt.
Wiping in a circular motion will give a nice, natural-looking stain.

The tips are as follows:
・Reduce surface dirt
- To emphasize the edges
・Make sure to thoroughly clean areas where dirt is likely to accumulate (dents and recessed areas).
・Smudge it quickly and wipe it off
・Spray a matte top coat to finish
Weathering doesn't have to be as thorough as painting a complete model; just adding some rough dirt will remove the "toy-like" feel, so it's recommended for those who want to move away from basic assembly!

I was able to make a cool Gunpla for just 1 yen, including the kit!

This was a bit rushed, but with just 1 yen in hand and nothing to start with, I was able to create a Gunpla kit that was even cooler than the unassembled version, including the kit.
As for the tools, they can be used in the future, so they will be an asset for making plastic models!
This time I did some easy weathering work, and I hope it will be helpful.
