What is Hack Day anyway?

Simply put, "Hack Day" isAn event where you can experience the fun of manufacturing.
It first took place in 2007 as an internal event at Yahoo Japan Corporation in Japan (Yahoo America has been holding it since 2005).
Then, in 2013, the company evolved its annual internal events into open events that creators from outside the company could also enjoy.
Then, in 2016, the event's base was moved to Akihabara, where it remains to this day.

The event will include a presentation battle where participants will present works they have created in 24 hours, as well as experience booths, so even those with no knowledge of manufacturing will be able to enjoy it.
So,If you are a creator, it is an opportunity to connect with people who make the same things.Even if you are not a creator,You can experience the joy of manufacturing up closeIt's an event.

Hack Day 2019 admission!

I arrived before the start time, but there was already quite a crowd.
The event will be held at Akihabara UDX.
Experience booths and merchandise booths were set up on the first and second floors, and a presentation stage was set up inside the second floor.

Hackathon Presentation Stage

Approximately 80 teams will participateThey have to present what they have created in 24 hours in 90 seconds."Hackathon Presentation Stage".

Guest: "I'm sorry" was there, and the host was voice actor "Mami Yamashita"Mr.
I was impressed by Yamashita's clear speech and how easy it was to understand. What you'd expect from a voice actor!
The first act featured people playing instruments and CG characters singing.
I see, so you created a simple Vtuber in 24 hours.

There were many other presentations, but since it is not possible to list them all, we will introduce the presentations that were particularly interesting.

The team name is "Hanamaru Challengers'
What should I do with the food I put out?zero caloriesThe presentation of the table that showed what would happen was interesting.
For example, if you put a donut on the table,Zero calories when heated" is displayed in English.
As soon as he gave his presentation, which included a line from a certain comedian, the audience erupted in laughter.

Experience booth

FAIRCUT Automatic Baumkuchen cutting machine using artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence judgmentApparently, this automatically cuts the Baumkuchen to fit the body shape of the person eating it.
For example,If you are thin, they will cut more, and if you are fat, they will cut less.
For those on a diet, this may be a good idea as it helps prevent overeating.

'Super' Realistic Crane Game 1/50 Scale Crane

There was also a realistic crane game.
As you'd expect, it's impossible to control a drone in real life, so it was quite a popular booth.

Interactive picture book "Kishiman Ver.2"

When you turn the page of a picture book, pictures and words appear on the page and the book is automatically read aloud.

Shinobi Shooting

A target shooting game in which you throw shuriken at images projected on a screen.
The final enemy was fun!
This booth was particularly lively and filled with laughter.

It was dark and difficult to take pictures with my camera, so I took a video instead.

Curling with a deck brush

The technical details are difficult to explain, but in simple termsIt seems that the small machine attached to the brush is linked to the game screen.
Therefore, if you scrub the floor too hard with the brush, the stone will slide too much, and if you scrub too lightly, the stone will stop moving.
I thought it would be better to experience it for myself rather than just listen to an explanation, so I decided to play it.
Since it's basically a two-player game, I teamed up with someone who happened to be listening to the conversation with me to try it out.
There are two difficulty levels: normal and hard, and since no one had played the hard level yet, I decided to try the hard level.
Compared to the normal setting, the hard setting seems to stop the stone immediately unless you rub it really hard.
As a result of playing, the stone stopped just before reaching the center of the circle.
Hard mode is too difficult!!

Loot: Nostalgic floppy disks

At the workshop booth where you can make things using electronic kits, you can find the nostalgic floppy disk!
To be exactIt was a board that resembled a floppy disk.

I bought the red and green ones as a souvenir.
There were also orange and navy blue colors.
Each ticket cost 500 yen. After filling out the survey, I received a sticker.

Conclusion

My honest impression of participating in the event was that it was fun.
It was my first time participating, but even though I'm not an expert on programming or other manufacturing aspects, I still enjoyed it.
I was able to communicate with people I didn't know through the game.
In addition to adults, there were many small children in attendance, so I thought it was an event that people of all ages could enjoy.
If you are interested in this event,I recommend you try to participate.
For those who think that it costs money to go to Tokyo and it is far away,"Niconico VideoThe event will be broadcast live onSo why not give it a watch?
またStudents who want to become creators but don't know what to doFor this reason, Yahoo! JAPAN also holds events other than Hack Day.
that is" to create opportunities for students to become creatorsHack U", beginners and elementary school students "Hack Kids" Activities such as:
