[May 2024] Akihabara store closures [Closings, relocations, and mergers]

Since the Golden Week holidays ended, we have been experiencing extreme temperature changes, with hot and cold weather continuing, and on top of that, the rainy season is approaching.
Here are some of the stores that closed this month.

Tokyo Food Bar Akihabara

Opening date: Wednesday, November 28, 2010
Closing date: Monday, May 6, 2024

A food court located in the central concourse on the first floor of JR Akihabara Station.
It will close due to construction work in preparation for the opening of the new station-based shopping facility "Ecute Akihabara" in spring 2025.

Café Wheel Bar by PRONTO IL BAR Tokyo Food Bar Akihabara store

Opening date: Wednesday, November 28, 2010
Closing date: Monday, May 6, 2024

A cafe and bar located in the food court inside JR Akihabara Station.
Closed due to construction work in preparation for the opening of "Ecute Akihabara".

SPICE FACTORY Tokyo Food Bar Akihabara

Opening date: Monday, April 26, 2021
Closing date: Monday, May 6, 2024

A curry restaurant run by JR East located in the food court inside JR Akihabara Station.
It previously operated in the same location as Tonkatsu Ginza Umebayashi, but closed due to construction work in preparation for the opening of Ecute Akihabara.

Tokyo Jangara Akihabara store

Opening date: Saturday, November 21, 2015
Closing date: Monday, May 6, 2024

A ramen restaurant located inside JR Akihabara Station that is a collaboration between Kyushu Jangara and a company related to JR East.
Closed due to construction work in preparation for the opening of "Ecute Akihabara".

QBHOUSE Akihabara Station

Opening date: Thursday, March 31, 2005
Closing date: Tuesday, May 7, 2024

A cheap haircut shop located next to the toilet inside the Electric Town exit ticket gate.
The TX Akihabara Station store closed on March 31st last year, and with the closure of the Akihabara Station store, cheap haircut stores have completely disappeared from the Akihabara area.

BECK'S COFFEE SHOP Akihabara Electric Town Entrance Store

Closing date: Monday, May 6, 2024

This cafe was located under the elevated tracks, just outside the Electric Town exit.
According to an official announcement, the store is closed due to station improvement work.
The neighboring conveyor belt sushi restaurant Uzushio Akihabara branch also closed on the same day.

Opening date: Monday, April 12, 2010
Closing date: Monday, May 6, 2024

This conveyor belt sushi restaurant was located under the elevated tracks, just outside the Electric Town exit.
Closed due to the opening of "Ecute Akihabara".

TRIO Radio Kaikan Store [Merger]

Opening date: Sunday, April 20, 2014
Closing date: Monday, May 6, 2024

A store specializing in idol goods located in Radio Kaikan.
This store is closing due to a merger with the AKIBA Cultures ZONE store.
After the store integration, the new store "TRIO DX" is scheduled to open in early June on the 6th floor of AKIBA Cultures ZONE.

Trader Akihabara Main Store [Relocation]

Opening date: July 2009
Closing date: Monday, May 6, 2024

A store selling games, figures, etc. located along Chuo Street.
It had been in business for about 14 and a half years at the site of the former Sofmap Akihabara Main Store Amusement Hall, but closed due to the store's reconstruction.
After closing, the store will reopen on May 23rd in a newly constructed building on the site of Trader Akihabara Store No. 3.

Trader Akihabara Main Store to Reopen on May 23, 2024

Jigemon Champon Akihabara Branch

Opening date: Thursday, March 6, 2022
Closing date: Saturday, May 25, 2024

A champon specialty restaurant that opened in 2022 along Showa-dori Street, near Yodobashi Akiba.
They also offer dishes such as shabu shabu and agotama meshi, which is eaten with champon soup.

Ramen Tenzan

Opening date: Thursday, March 6, 2022
Closing date: Late June 2024

A Jiro-style ramen restaurant along Shoheibashi Street.
It closed without notice in late May.
A successor store, Ramen Kagemusha, which previously operated at this location, has reopened.

All food courts in Akihabara Station close simultaneously

This month, there was a lot of buzz about the closures of establishments such as "Tokyo Food Bar Akihabara," "Tokyo Jangara Akihabara branch," and "Uzushio Akihabara branch," which is adjacent to the station building.
