[June 2024] Summary of Akihabara store closures [Closings/mergers]

With the rainy season starting a little late across the country and hot weather continuing since before July, it feels like our sense of the seasons is a bit off these days.
Here's a list of stores that closed in June.

Kimuraya Akihabara store

Opening date: Friday, June 22, 2012
Closing date: Sunday, June 2, 2024

A drugstore located in the middle of the east-west free passage at Akihabara Station.
The Yamada Denki chain had been operating stores mainly in the Tokyo metropolitan area, but with the closure of the Akihabara store, only two stores remain: the Shinbashi Hibiyaguchi store and the Jimbocho store.

Koropokkuru

Closing date: Friday, June 14, 2024

The free smoking area along Chuo-dori Street near Suehirocho Station has closed.
It was once known as "Smokers' Style in the South (closed in 2006), Koropokkuru in the North," and was a beloved oasis for Akihabara smokers for many years.
The recent reduction in smoking spaces and this closure will likely leave Akihabara smokers feeling uncomfortable.

GOLD DECK

Gold Deck
Opening date: Sunday, April 28, 2024
Closing date: Late June 2024

A card shop located along Junk Street.
The store was operating using half of the GENO QCPASS store space, but in just under two months, everything in the store was gone, and now half of the GENO QCPASS store space has been restored.
At this time, the official X account has changed its name and become private, and the truth behind the closure has yet to be revealed.

Coffee An

Opening date: 1970s
Closing date: Late June 2024

A retro Showa-era coffee shop located on the outskirts of the electronics district.
No information has been announced at this time about the reason for the closure or whether the store will be relocated, but the hydrangeas in front of the store, which were a symbol of Akihabara's rainy season, have been removed, and a notice has been posted stating, "Restoration work to original condition from June 20th to July 10th," so it is rumored that the store may have closed.

Machi Character Trading Card Hall

Closing date: Sunday, June 23, 2024

A trading card specialty store located along Kanda Myojin Street.
Closed due to store integration with "Lottery Specialty Store Mach Akihabara Hobby Hall."

Silken soba

Silken soba
Opening date: 1971
Closing date: Thursday, June 27, 2024

A famous stand-up soba restaurant with a 53-year history near Suehirocho Station is closing.
The owner is from the famous restaurant "Kitchen Nankai," which operated as "Curry Nankai" for 12 years before opening Kinu Soba.

Casablanca

Opening date: Wednesday, November 9, 2022
Closing date: Sunday, June 30, 2024

A meat soba restaurant located inside SEEKBASE under the Akihabara Station overpass.
The restaurant serves meat soba noodles, characterized by thick, chewy noodles and a sweet and spicy soup with chili oil.It was produced by the owner of Soba Dokoro Minatoya, a famous pioneering chili oil soba restaurant that closed in 2019.

Long-established stores are closing one after another

This month, the closure of Kinu Soba and Coffee An, which had been in business for many years, became a hot topic.
Additionally, Koropokkuru, a rare free smoking area in Akihabara, has also closed.
