[Arcade Controller Modification] I replaced the lever with a high-rebound, silent one [Sound Comparison Included]

Akihabara BC

Due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic that has been ongoing since last year, fighting game tournaments are increasingly being held online.
The number of tournaments has also decreased significantly, and fighting games played at home have become the norm these days.
It's great to be able to easily play against people far away online, but there's one problem that always comes up.
yes"Arcade controller noise issue』.

This time, we will be posting a review and replacement method for one part that solves the problem of arcade controller noise, so please take a look.

By incorporating the silent buttons and parts we introduced previously, the operating noise emitted from the arcade controller can be significantly reduced, so if you've been interested, we recommend you give it a try.

Sanwa Electronics High-Rebound Silent Lever [JLF-TPRG-8BYT-SK]

I purchased this from Sengoku Densho, an arcade controller parts store in Akihabara that I visit almost every weekend.

This was securely packaged. When I opened it...
Sanwa Denshi High-Rebound Silent Lever [JLF-TPRG-8BYT-SK]has appeared.
Visually, the only noticeable change is that the guide plate is blue compared to the normal lever.

In short, the lever with the blue guide attached is a high-rebound, quiet lever.
Since the dimensions of the parts are the same as those of the standard Sanwa lever, parts that have previously been used for the standard Sanwa lever can now be used for the high-rebound, silent lever.
You can even install OTTO DIY and still reduce the sound of lever operation!

As usual, the arcade controller we will be using this time is this one!
"Victrix Pro FS Arcade Fight Stick』.
As you can see from the image, it has excellent quietness.GamerFingerThe buttons have been replaced with new ones to reduce typing noise.

What would happen if we equipped this arcade controller with a high-rebound, silent lever?
I wonder if it will become a silent arcade stick that doesn't even make a sound...

The only tools required are a Phillips head screwdriver and a flat head screwdriver.
I also thought it might be easier to install the E-ring if I had some pliers.

Since I won't be changing to a normal lever for a while, I plan to disassemble it after removing it.
Normally, to remove a lever, you only need to remove the lever ball from the shaft, but this time we also had to remove the shaft from the main body.
* Use a flat-head screwdriver to loosen the lever ball.
*If you remove the E-ring attached to the end of the shaft, you can remove the shaft from the lever body.

Next, remove the lever base from the arcade controller body.
It should be no problem as you only need to remove four screws from the plate.
The Victrix Pro FS Arcade Fight Stick's lever base is a little difficult to remove, so be careful not to cut any nearby wiring.

Next, install the lever in the reverse order of removal.
You guys have made it this far so you must be in good hands!

Comparison of lever operation sounds [normal vs. quiet]

From here, I'd like you to listen to the difference in the operating sound between the Sanwa standard lever and the high-rebound silent lever.
The difference in volume is surprising, so it's worth paying attention to.

What do you think?

Using a high-rebound, silent lever

As expected, I was bothered by the fact that the operation feel was completely different.
Even though I knew it would happen, it's still quite strange to lose the clicking sensation when you press the switch.
There is no difference in the stroke distance itself, but it feels somehow strange.
That said, the goal of reducing noise was fully achieved, so this is definitely a must-buy for anyone who is troubled by the noise of their arcade controller.
