[PS5] Controller disassembly procedure that even beginners can do [also for modding]
The more functional a controller is, the more parts it has and the higher the risk of breakdown.
Nowadays, a single controller costs between 7000 and 8000 yen.
It's best to fix the problem yourself if possible.
This time, we will show you how to disassemble the PS5 controller, which has a variety of functions.

The PS5 controller used this time
Here is the controller I'll be using.

The PS5 controller, also known as the DualShock 5.
Haptic feedback? HD vibration function? And so on. It feels like a next-generation controller packed with the essence of Sony's science.
When you normally purchase it, it costs a fair amount of 8000 to 9000 yen, depending on the color.
Considering that controllers for e-sports scenes, which are used by professionals, cost around 1 to 2 yen, it's quite expensive.
It's not like I'll just buy a new one just because it broke...
So what do we do? Let's fix it!
Tools used this time
This tool set was also used to disassemble the Switch Pro Controller.

Even though it was inexpensive, there was no problem with ease of use.
The PS5 controller has some very hard parts when removing it, so the opener was very useful.

Remove the PS5 controller's exterior
There are three steps to removing the casing of a PS5 controller.
・Remove the cover around the stick
Remove the back cover of the controller
・Remove the circuit board, battery, etc.
.
Now, let's get started with the breakdown.
Remove the cover around the stick and the bottom of the controller
First, remove the grip part of the controller.
This part is only held in place by nails, so remove it by peeling it off.

Next, remove the terminal and microphone area.
It is attached quite tightly, so it is easy to remove using an opener.

Once you have removed the claws, move them in the direction of the arrow to remove the parts around the stick.

Remove the exterior parts and back
From here on, we will use the driver.
First, remove the two screws on the grip.

Be sure to keep the screws in a safe place so you don't lose them.
I use a paint tray.

After removing the screwsL button/R buttonRemove the.
This part is also held in place only by a nail, so it is best to use a thin tool like a flathead screwdriver to remove it.
If you have a tool kit, it's easier to use the narrow opener that comes with it.

This is what it looks like when you unbutton it.

Next, remove the two screws hidden by the button.

All that's left to do is simply disassemble the top and bottom halves and you're done!
This part is also quite hard, so I think it will be easier to disassemble using an opener.
I was able to do it with quite a bit of force.

Remove the circuit board
Next, remove the board.
First, let's remove the battery.
It will be difficult to work unless you remove the connector properly.

After removing the battery, remove three screws and four printed wiring.

Be careful not to cut the motor wires as they are thin.
As with all manufacturers, I wish they'd make it a little thicker or reinforce the contact points a bit more.

Finally, turn the circuit board upside down and remove it by hand to complete the disassembly.

PS5 controller maintenance
This time, we only did maintenance around the stick and buttons, so there was no heavy work to do.
As usual, I used an air duster and contact cleaner.

The PS5 controller I disassembled this time had no problems, but I took the opportunity to clean the inside and keep the external parts clean.
The stick part is particularly susceptible to dirt and dust, so be sure to keep it clean.

After that, just assemble it and your work is done!
The PS5 controller might be a bit of a hassle to use?
The disassembly procedure for the PS5 controller is slightly more complicated, so the disassembly process may be a bit more tedious than the controllers we've covered so far at Akihabara Base Camp.
In addition, the price of the main unit is relatively high, so there is a high risk of damaging the controller due to a work error.
When disassembling, you do so at your own risk! If you are unsure at all, please consider asking someone who can do it for you.
