[Akihabara] Sneaking into RTA in Japan 2019 [RTA]

Akihabara BC

One way to enjoy games is through RTA.
Real-time attack, abbreviated as RTA (also known as Speedrun).
This is a way of playing the game where you aim to complete the game as quickly as possible in real time, not game time.

On December 27th, at the very end of the year, an event is being held where RTAs will be held for five days straight.
That is "RTA in Japan 2019"is!
I went to this event, which I didn't think was crazy, so I hope you can at least get a feel for the atmosphere.

What is RTA?

A way of playing is to set a goal for the game title you choose and try to achieve it as quickly as possible.
It is called Speedrun overseas.
"Set your goals' is an important part, and there are also RTAs that are not aimed at clearing the game.
However, it generally has a closer meaning to how long it takes to complete a single game title.
One of the reasons for the popularity of RTA is the high level of competitiveness, with players competing for records under the same rules.

RTA Rules

In principle, the measurement timer will not be stopped no matter what happens.
The measurement will continue even if the game ends, you make a mistake and have to start over, or you pause the game to temporarily stop the progress.
There is a type of game called IGT where players compete to see who can clear the game the fastest, but in RTA the timer keeps ticking no matter what happens until the objective is achieved.

RTA Terminology

If you remember this, you will generally understand the purpose of RTA.
Even if you take a quick look at the video title and description,What is the purpose of which game?] will be immediately apparent.

Any%
This is the event that will likely have the most runners.
The rules of play are aggressive and focused on rushing to complete the game as quickly as possible.

100% (MAX%)
Playing rules to achieve a 100% completion rate when clearing the game, such as collecting all items and completing all stages.
In the sense of clearing all the elements that can be achieved, it can be said to be an RTA until the game is completely cleared.

No bugs allowed
Play the game as intended, without using bugs or glitches.
When exploiting a bug, this will be stated.

Single run
Conducting an RTA alone.
If there is someone running alongside youRaceIt is written as follows.

For example,
[PS version] Original Resident Evil Any% No bugs
In the case of the title
The goal is to complete the PlayStation version of Resident Evil as quickly as possible without using any bugs.

In addition to this, there are also options such as NG (new game with no carryover elements) and NS (no save), but these will vary depending on the runner's video, so if you're interested, check out the details!

About RTA in Japan 2019

This introduction has gotten a bit long, but from December 27th to 31st, 2019, an event was held in which such RTAs were held offline in a continuous relay format.
That is 【RTA in Japan 2019】is.

This is not a recorded video, but a full-scale "real-time attack" event where [runners] will be playing [RTA] at [venue].
If you make a mistake, you can't start recording the video from the beginning.
It would be terrible if you got a game over in a title without autosave.
Under such pressure, many runners perform RTA.
Anyone with even a little knowledge of the basics of RTA will be captivated by the tension in the venue and the spirit of the runners.

It will also be streamed on Twitch, so even those who can't make it to the venue can enjoy the RTA!

I will say it again and again, this event isSerious Real-Time Attack', so it has a different feel to it than watching it on video.
You may not be able to play your best, and you may end up suffering from bad luck in a place that is dependent on luck.Runners create a ``chart'' that is a plan for how they will reach the finish line, but things may not always go according to that chart.
That's why you'll be able to see the runners' realistic expressions and their serious attitude towards the game.

Also, cute acrylic keychains will be on sale at the venue, so if you find one you like, be sure to buy one!

If you're interested, you too can become an RTA runner!

I myself am quite picky about RTAs.
At one point, I even seriously did an RTA of the PS4 version of Resident Evil 4 using only the original handguns.
I researched the game's systems, enemy routines, and various other things, made charts, and ran with them.
To be honest, it was tough and difficult, but the sense of accomplishment when I completed it was extraordinary.
If you've become interested in RTA after watching this event, then this is for you! Why not try becoming a runner yourself as a viewer?

Postscript
What I'm curious about at this event is the time slots for these three works.

He has a particularly strong attachment to Zero, and stillPlease release a new Zero game, or rather, please remake the original for PS4." he keeps telling Kotek.
I want to see it at the venue...
