Spiral: The Bonds of Reasoning 20th Anniversary Exhibition Report (First Half)

Akihabara BC

Have you heard of the work "Spiral: The Bonds of Reasoning"?
The popular series began serialization in the September 1999 issue of Monthly Shonen Gangan, and an anime adaptation began airing in October 2002.
At the time, I was in elementary school and became hooked on the series through the anime, then read the original manga and became even more hooked.

Now, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the popular work "Spiral: The Bonds of Reasoning," an original art exhibition will be held.
As a fan of the original work and anime, I couldn't miss this!

The original art exhibition required advance lottery applications, and there was a one-hour rotation system from entry to exit.
The dates are between September 7th (Sat) and 23rd (Mon) 2019.It seems that the original artwork displayed in the first and second halves is different.
Of course, I wanted to go to both the first and second halves, so I signed up for both days.
I was worried that I might not be selected if I applied on a weekend or public holiday, so I applied on a weekday and was selected for both days!
That's great!!!!!!
Looking at Twitter, it seems that many people who applied on weekends and holidays were unsuccessful.

I went to the Spiral ~Bonds of Reasoning~ original art exhibition (first half)

Goods corner

First, when you enter the venue, you will be greeted by a merchandise counter.
Clear files, badges, postcard sets, and more were on sale.
Some items were sold out, but there was an announcement that they would be restocked.

All types of acrylic key chains and badges available for sale were on display.
If you see something like this, you'll want to buy them all!!

There was also an exhibition of acrylic ornaments.
This product is apparently sold on order.

The original paintings on display

Once you pass the merchandise corner, you'll find the long-awaited original artwork!
A nostalgic and memorable scene!!
It's nice to see it in a book, but seeing the original artwork is different.

Ayumu is a very feminine girl.
He's a great cook, smart and handsome, I'm so jealous!!

I remember seeing this Alleluia scene in the anime and it gave me goosebumps.
The moment when Ayumu's intelligence won the battle of wits against twin-tailed Rio was amazing.

Yuzaki Hiyono's smile is dazzling!!

Rare draft names were also on display.

And the next key animation depicts my personal favorite scene from the final episode.
It was also displayed in a particularly prominent place at the original art exhibition.

Above all, the farewell scene and reunion scene in the final episode are the ones that left the biggest impression on me.
Another plus point is that Hiyono's hairstyle is straight instead of in pigtails.

Colour illustrations on display

Here are the color illustrations.

Illustrations of characters from "Spiral Alive" and the novel version "Side Story: Detective Narumi Kiyotaka - Kohinata Kurumi's Challenge" were also on display.

A photo that overflows with Hiyono's angelic quality...

A refreshing illustration featuring the Blue Children and the main characters.

It may be difficult to tell from the photo, but if you look closely you can see that the background is painted.
Digital illustrations are nice, but these hand-drawn illustrations have a certain charm to them and are also very good.
I mean, it's too good!!
The great thing about an original art exhibition is that you can see these wonderful paintings up close and in great detail.

Illustration on the cover of the final 15th volume of "Spiral: Bonds of Reasoning."
As expected, the cover with Ayumu and Hiyori is really great.

This is an original illustration that Mizuno-sensei created specifically for this exhibition.
It's so amazing!!

I went to the original art exhibition

As a fan of the original work and anime, I was really glad to be able to participate in this exhibition!!
In particular, the original illustrations of Ayumu and Hiyo drawn for the exhibition and the original illustrations of the final scene of the original manga were fantastic.
The scene where Ayumu and Hiyon shake hands and say goodbye, and the scene where they reunite, which are scenes that I personally found particularly memorable in the work, were on display in large size, and I was moved!!!

As I looked at the exhibits and chose goods to purchase, it was time to leave before I knew it.
An hour too early...

As an admission bonus, I received a "20th anniversary message card with original illustration" and a BOOKMARK admission bonus bookmark.
You can see many original drawings, take photos and post them on social media, and it's all free - how generous are Shirodaira-sensei and Mizuno-sensei!?

Even though it was only for a short time, it was a truly happy time being surrounded by illustrations of my favorite works!!
This time, I posted about the first half of the exhibition, but I was also selected to attend the second half, so I plan to post about that at a later date.
If you'd like, please also check out the exhibition report in the second half!

Good news for those who haven't pre-registered here but still want to go!
There seems to be a date and time when you can enter for free,Official Websitecheck!!
