Tora Matsuri 2020 Summer UDX Special Venue Event Report [Toranoana]

Toranoana holds a doujin sales event called "Tora Matsuri" once every five years!
This year marks Toranoana's 25th anniversary, and in addition to Toranoana stores, they will be holding the "Online Toranoana Festival 2020 Summer" from August 1st to 31st, in conjunction with online services such as mail order!
This time, I went to the Tora Matsuri UDX Special Venue Branch, an event featuring an illustration exhibition and merchandise sales at the Tora Matsuri, held at the UDX venue in Akihabara from August 12th to 16th, so I've written a report on it!

The Tora Matsuri UDX Special Venue Branch Office is a venue that simultaneously holds multiple events within the UDX special venue, located just a short walk from Akihabara Station.
The event started at 10:00, but by noon outside it had turned into hell with temperatures exceeding 30°C in the sun and humidity.

The event will be held at the UDX Gallery on the 4th floor of Akihabara UDX. Admission is free!

All visitors must wear masks. Staff will take their temperature at the entrance, and once inside the venue, they will disinfect their hands with alcohol-based disinfectant.

"Aquaplus Photo Spot" - Utawarerumono and WHITE ALBUM 2 related goods, exhibition event

Life-size figures of Nekone and Lulutier from Aquaplus' popular Utawarerumono: Lost Flag. There is currently no information on sales, only on display.

Nekone's cuteness remains unchanged even when she is life-sized.

How about a super-smart younger sister character?

Compared to Nekone, Lulutier looks a little more mature.

An exhibit of the Kyoto decorative fan of Kuon, the main heroine of Utawarerumono: False Mask and Two White Emperors. It has a flashy, elegant feel like a gold folding screen and is cool.

A folding fan inspired by the world and characters of Utawarerumono.
According to the explanation, each fan is carefully handcrafted by artisans at Maisendo, a long-established fan maker in Kyoto, from the surface to the ribs.
Production is limited, but it looks like they'll be selling a limited number of them soon!

Next up is Nekone's Kyoto decorative fan. Unlike Kuon's decorative fan, the cherry blossom color is more vibrant.

The distinctive knot of this fan was apparently made by a braiding craftsman at Showen Kumihimo, a long-established braiding shop in Kyoto. As this is also a handmade product, production is limited, but it seems that a limited number will be sold soon.

Near the life-size figures, there is also a merchandise corner selling Utawarerumono Frugra T-shirts, clear files, and more!

Next up was the corner for WHITE ALBUM 2, another popular Aquaplus work. In addition to the featured fragrances and merchandise inspired by the characters Kazusa Touma and Setsuna Ogiso from the work,

"100 Artists Exhibition" corner - merchandise for sale, new doujinshi publications on sale, etc.

This is the merchandise corner for the 100 Artists Exhibition, which is also being held in the UDX building.

Canvas art and clear files of illustrations by artists who are active in manga, anime, games, and light novels.

There are also calendars and Ita-sensu goods that will be useful this summer. What great taste!!

Tapestries by artists such as Tomose Shunsaku and Ito Noizi.

Catalogues for "100 Artists Exhibition 06" to "100 Artists Exhibition 09" were also on sale.

In addition to the latest summer doujinshi releases, there are also goods that can only be found here.

This is a social gathering place for adult gentlemen. There is also a sales corner selling adult-oriented doujinshi and merchandise. By the way, people under the age of 18 are not allowed to enter.

In the adult area, GOT x Toranoana's joint "R18 Illustration Event HOT LIMIT 2020" will feature merchandise sales and an exhibition corner for illustration art books and other items.

So that was the state of the Tora Matsuri UDX special venue branch! We only showed a small part of what was on display and for sale, but the event will run until the 16th.
Additionally, from the 13th to the 16th, the "Kurando Bishounen Exhibition - Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Beautiful Boys" will be held at the UDX venue, where an illustration exhibition and merchandise sales will be held.

In addition, in commemoration of Toranoana's 25th anniversary, the "Online Toranoana Festival 2020 Summer" will be held. There will be a variety of online events, including an online doujinshi sale centered on the web, and an online broadcast on the official Toranoana YouTube channel featuring appearances by various creators, mainly those with ties to Toranoana.
