Christmas Toy Fair 2022 Report: An exhibition of toys for the year-end sales season

The "Christmas Toy Fair 2022" is being held at the Taito Hall of the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center from September 7th to 8th, 2022.
This is a historic trade fair, marking its 40th anniversary and the first time it has been held in three years since 2019.
It may seem less well known than the Tokyo Toy Show, and that's no surprise.
The event is not open to the public.

The venue, the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center Taito Hall, is in Asakusa.
The neighboring station, Kuramae, is a toy wholesale district with many toy manufacturers in the surrounding area, making it the perfect location for a toy trade fair.

This time, the exhibition took place on four floors, from the 4th to the 8th floors.
Perhaps because this is the first time the event has been held in three years, the venue is bustling with activity.

By the way, Taitokan is fairly close to Akihabara and is a popular place for doujinshi sales, so many people may be familiar with it.

Introducing toys that caught my eye at the Christmas Toy Fair 2022

It is said that 40% of sales in the toy industry come from December to January, when the Christmas and New Year shopping seasons are in full swing, and as someone who used to work in a toy store, I know firsthand how intense this season can be.
Here we will introduce some of the toys that caught our eye at this trade fair, which showcases the cutting edge people sent by various companies to these sites.

Hanayama Thrill Tower

"Thrill Tower" is an analog game in which you pull out pillars without causing the tower to collapse.
The biggest attraction is its sheer size, and the sight of the tower over 100cm tall collapsing is truly impressive!
This game, which looks great in vertical videos, is a revival of a product released 55 years ago.

Toyco Fish-filled Fishing Boat Set

At the Toyco booth, well-known for its ride-on toys and vehicle toys, the "Fish-filled!! Fishing Boat Set" was on display, which included a fishing boat, seafood, and a market.
Although it is just a prototype, I really hope that it will be released.

Epoch Sylvanian Families

Sylvanian Families, which often holds pop-up stores inside JR Akihabara Station, offers not only the main series but also a line with a stronger fantasy feel.

In recent years, it has also become popular among adults, and sales are apparently increasing.

Other various toys

"Sumikko Gurashi Shooting Star Rally Game" where players bounce balls back and forth.
At first, I thought it was a Sumikko Gurashi torpedo battle game.

These children's rain shoe covers feature copyrighted character illustrations and do not cover the soles of the shoes to prevent slipping.

New products are also being released one after another for "Kamen Rider Geets," which just began airing in September.
The bat(?) with the chainsaw attached is cool!!
